Want maximum flexibility?

With our modular sofas, you can create the layout that fits your living room perfectly. Choose from individual elements and design a setup that can evolve with your needs – from a generous lounge sofa to a compact arrangement. This way, you can truly make your quality sofa your own.

What should you consider when buying a new sofa?

Have you already thought about the number of seats you need?

You can choose a 2-seater, 3-seater, or a corner sofa – or fully customize your own with separate elements. There are also plenty of colours and materials to choose from. Will you go for a neutral tone, or opt for a bold statement colour?

1. Size and space

First, it’s important to measure the space where the new sofa will go. This prevents surprises and ensures the sofa will fit properly. Use paper or tape to outline the dimensions of different sofa models on your floor to see how they fit the room. You’ll need 60 to 80 cm of walking space around the sofa and 40 to 50 cm between the sofa and the coffee table.

2. How many seats do you need?

You can use a general guideline of about 60 cm seating width per person. On average, a 2-seater sofa is 170 to 190 cm wide. A 3-seater starts at 200 cm. Consider how many people are in your household and how much extra seating you’d like for guests. This helps narrow down the right sofa. You might also consider a corner sofa to instantly create more seating.

3. Modular sofas

A modular sofa is a great option as well. Make sure your space is suitable for a modular setup. Sometimes a fixed sofa works better with your room layout. If you’re unsure about your living room’s layout, we offer custom interior advice to help you out.

4. What kind of look are you going for?

The sofa is a central element of your room and sets the tone for the overall style and atmosphere. Think about which colours and materials you like, and which type of sofa suits your interior. Our collection features over 130 colours. Having a hard time choosing? No worries – you can easily order fabric samples online to see how the materials and colours look in your home. Add them to a mood board with your favourite styles and shades to shape your dream seating area.

5. Choose a sofa with the right seating comfort

Comfort is key. After a long day, you want to sink into a sofa that feels just right. Consider what features are important to you when choosing a sofa: a supportive backrest, firm or soft cushions, a lounge section, or perhaps a matching ottoman?

6. Price vs. quality

Investing in quality pays off. A good quality sofa lasts around 7 to 15 years, depending on usage and care. At De Machinekamer, we offer high-quality sofas with strong frames and Nosag steel spring seating. Designed with attention to detail and made from top-grade materials.

7. What kind of maintenance does the sofa need?

Some fabrics are easy to clean – especially useful if you have pets or kids. Get advice in-store on the best fabric options, or order fabric samples online.
