Knoll
In 1938, Hans G. Knoll founded the Hans G. Knoll Furniture Company in New York. Hans Knoll is the son of a German furniture maker and trained in Switzerland and England. In these special 1920s and 1930s he came into contact with the famous ideas of Walter Gropius, Marcel Breuer and Mies van der Rohe. He is inspired by this and immediately decides to work with the factory to promote the new way of thinking in the field of interior design. During the Second World War, Hans Knoll came into contact with his later wife and design talent Florence Schust.
Knoll Associates
Together they are at the helm of the company and change the name of the company to Knoll Associates. The Knoll's appear to have an excellent network, because they are unable to connect even the slightest names to their brand. As a result, they soon have a leading collection with designs by the architects Eero Saarinen, Franco Albini and the artists Harry Bertoia, Jens Risom and Isamu Noguchi. It is clearly visible that many designs are inspired by the Bauhaus and the Scandinavian movement. Nowadays, many Knoll furniture from the fruitful 1950s are eye-catchers in better mid-century design interiors.
