Toon de Wit begins his design career in the 1930s as a manager/designer at the first machine-operated chair factory in Overschie. He witnesses the rise of mass production in steel tube frame furniture during his time at Gispen.

Ambitious as he is, Toon decides to establish De Schiedamse Fabriek van Stalen Meubelen Gebr. De Wit nv together with his business-minded brother Martien. Their focus is entirely on the production of tubular frame furniture, showcasing Toon's expertise in steel furniture.

Comfortable, Stylish, and Durable

De Wit furniture meets modern demands, combining comfort and strength, often resulting in elegant designs. In the 1970s, the brothers sell the company to the furniture factory Exquis, where some models remain in production for a few more years, albeit with reduced quality.
